The developer’s first traditional RPG, it featured a medieval setting, anthropomorphized animals, and a dragon-filled plot. A year earlier, the first entry in the series had been released by Capcom to major success. While not on the level of an entirely new 3D console, the new game was meaningful at the time. That same week, Nintendo released a game for the SNES called Breath of Fire II. Sony was quickly becoming a serious contender for the top seat on the video game mountain where Nintendo had once reigned in solitude. Years of work plotting revenge against Nintendo for backing out of a joint console project came to fruition: during its first weekend, Sony claimed to move an astonishing 100,000 units. The game was well received when it was released, and shortly after it released the sequel, Breath of Fire II, in 1994.In 1994, Sony released the PlayStation in Japan. During his mission, Ryu meets other warriors and conflicts with the Dark Dragon Clan, a military empire that seeks to take over the world by reviving a mad goddess. Set in a fantasy world, Breath of Fire tells the story of a young boy named Ryu, one of the last surviving members of an ancient race with the ability to transform into mighty dragons. In 2019, the game was released for Nintendo Switch SNES games. In 2016, the game was released for New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. In 2001, the game was re-released for the handheld Game Boy Advance system with new saving features and improved graphics, with the English version being first released in Europe. Originally released in Japan in April 1993, the game was later released in North America in August 1994 by Square Soft. Breath of Fire is a role-playing RPG game developed by Capcom for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System ( SNES).
